Iluka Law
(Proposed Florida Legislative Bill)
Iluka was a 13-month-old Australian Shepherd who died after a veterinary visit showing post-surgical emergency symptoms.
Thursday Morning: We Asked for Help
No bloodwork was ordered.
No imaging was performed.
No diagnostic testing.
Our concerns were dismissed.
We were told it was the body suit. * The incision was "healing well." * We were sent home.
39 hours…later he dies from preventable septic peritonitis. The emergency room veterinarian who saw him next described it as a “Preventable Death”
TWO Independent Expert Veterinarians reviewed his medical records and reached the same conclusion - — there were violations of basic standards of post-operative care.
The veterinarian who failed Iluka continues to practice. There was no license suspension, no criminal charge, no accountability. For the family, there was no recourse.
That is the gap Iluka’s Law is designed to close.
